NEC DSX VoIP overview

The NEC DSX supports off-site remote IP phones over a managed network.  To add remote phones to the DSX, it requires a VoIP daughter board card.  The daughter board card adds IP ports or channels to the phone system that can be used by IP devices or SIP trunks.  Additional IP ports can be added through VoIP expansion licenses.

The NEC DSX supports the following IP phones:

  • 34-Key IP phone:
    • 24 Programmable dual LED keys
    • 10 Programmable speed dial or feature keys
    • Full duplex, hands-free speaker phone
  • 34-Key super display IP phone:  Has the same functionality as the standard 34-key IP phone, but the super display model features a large 9 line-by-24 character LCD display.

Benefits of a VoIP phone system

A VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone system offers a wide range of benefits for businesses. Here are some of the key advantages:

Cost efficiency

  • Lower call costs:  VoIP typically reduces the cost of calls by utilizing SIP trunks rather than the traditional phone lines.
  • Reduced infrastructure expenses:  Ditch your expensive copper lines and utilize your existing network infrastructure to handle voice traffic.

Flexibility & mobility

  • Mobile integration:  Integrates with smartphones, tablets, and computers for seamless communication on the go.

Enhanced features

  • Voicemail to email:  Receive emails with audio files of your missed messages that you can access from any computer or smart phone.
  • Call recording:  Access your personal or company call recordings to handle customer disputes or for employee training.
  • Fax to email:  Receive faxes directly into your company inbox.

Adapability

  • Easy Expansion:  Availability to add lines or phones as your company grows
  • Remote worker support:  VoIP phones can be placed offsite or home offices to accommodate remote workers

VoIP alternatives to the NEC DSX

Because the NEC DSX has been discontinued, here are some alternative VoIP phone systems that we strongly recommend.

Grandstream UCM6300

The Grandstream UCM6300 is a series of VoIP-hybrid phone systems that deliver cutting edge features, while still accommodating older technology such as copper phone lines and analog phones.
The UCM6300 combines the control of an on-premise PBX with the robust features of a cloud PBX solution, creating an easy-to-manage hybrid communication system suitable for businesses of all sizes – but without the monthly license fees.

Grandstream features & benefits:

  • Supports traditional phone lines:  VoIP lines, such as SIP trunks, can drastically reduce your phone bill, however there are times where VoIP is not an option and you must rely on traditional copper lines.  In this case, the Grandstream UCM6300 PBX is a great choice, because it is a hybrid phone system that can accommodate VoIP and copper lines.
And the best part is that even if you keep your copper phone lines, you don't have to sacrifice any features.  The Grandstream offers enterprise-level voice features that are available over any line type – VoIP, copper (CO/POTS), or T1.
  • Supports analog phones:  The ability to use analog (single line / SLT) phones on the Grandstream system makes it a perfect fit for hotels, motels, hospitals, schools, or any type of business that relies on simple extension-to-extension dialing.
  • Variety of phones:  Choose from color display 32-key, 40-key, or 56-key IP phones, cordless IP phones, video phones, and video door phones.
  • RemoteConnect:  All of our Grandstream IP phones can be easily turned into a remote phone with Grandstream RemoteConnect.
  • Mobile & desktop apps:  The Grandstream UCM6300 includes a free mobile & desktop app that allows users to keep in touch through voice or team chat, even when they're on the go.
  • No monthly fee:  When you purchase a Grandstream UCM6300, you own it.  You get many "Cloud PBX features" without the Cloud PBX monthly fees.
